haha, bit of a weird one this mate, vey much 'computer music'.
The glitching is ace, i don't like that vocoder/talk synth one bit tho, too much of it and it detracts from the arrangement in the earlier part of the mix.
sort of reviewing on the fly here but the 2nd/3rd phrase of the piece is awesome, with the tablas, sax, and another sitar/guitar line. really mellow stuff. the glitch elements and 808s really compliment the sound here.
a dreamy, breathy harmony would be nice in that section.
haha the guitar in the 4th phrase is really jazzy, a weird choice of notation, too much delay on that vocal mind.
some of the instrument choices i wudnt necessarily make but then again this is your tune so who am i to complain, it's good stuff....one fault i have on it is it does seem to feel like theres 3 or 4 songs all put into one mix, missing a bit of glue. it's hard to make sense of. but the strongest part is definately the 2nd and 3rd phrase of the piece, definatley lose that vocoder synth early on tho.
good stuff mate, it's about a 4/5 in its present state. but cos im nice it's a 5.

cheeers matey,
it's not a vocoder and i loves it... maybe does get a bit played but it's the only thing really holding the first half of the track together, will think on it tho...
gonna work on the join where it just cuts out to nothing b4 the sax comes in and build up the next section into more of a section, just starts to get going then it trails out. that might allow me to scrap the 3rd section entirely.
anyways, helpful review, ta

superstar... lol, almost put me to sleep this has, again totally recognise the track, FFX im almost certain, the opening sequence. if im worng then shoot me.im comparing to the original whn i say the midi flaws it, again develop it into a more 'human' style. embellish it with your own sound, it's begging for it.
Its my chief grievance, remixes, unless i hear a very personal touch i turn off. you could nurture the synths into a very different direction and i think it's just you personally holdong back more than anything, you want to do it, but you won't.
just do it man.

again another 4/5 i have to say.

silly pitbull - this is the ENDING theme from chrono cross! :P
and thats not synth my man - thats actual real music box sound you hear - I pulled out all the stops for the sound of this one :P
also I didnt want to change this at all - in fact I wanted to keep it exactly the same - it was a personal choice and a personal song on my part. But thanks - also I record nothing other than samples as I play no instruments - so ya.

Interesting one, i can't quite put my finger on the track, is it secret of mana or an early ff? i recognise the track so i know i've played it.
Obviously as you can probably garner i aint the biggest fan of VG remixes, remixes at all tbh.
what comes across to me is the very midi-ish instrumentation, now in context it makes perfect sense, but surely you could use a more realistc representation of the given istruments, make it more 'human'. it's a minor gripe tho, just because im so used to 'real' music.
production wise it's spot on, pannings perfect, levels are spot on, mixing is bang on. i know why you hawk at me for my errotrs but hey ho, i do use analogue for the majority of my work, you should really try to get as much as you can in, you'll realsie how much harder the mixing job is.
anyways great track, and if it's an original it'd totally suit a good old 16 bit game, rpg of course.
4/5

Author's Response:
heh seems we have opposite problems - I'm aware how midi-ish it sounds - but after all I am a vg remixer and to make something seem real is very very difficult in fl - and since you ARE so used to recording its like 2 different worlds - of course if we were to work together we could prolly create some amazing stuff. So.. basically you can eternally harp on my midi-ish sounds and I can eternally harp on your production :P
and I am a remixer *shrugs* I make originals every now and then - in fact I have more originals than most ppl have songs on here - but theyre scattered about and hard to find..
oh and the game is actually called "Intinify & Eternity" - this is the main theme of it.
but thanks for the review man - and thanks for being honest - however pretty much everything ppl criticize about my songs - I already know - I just say "screw it I'll work on making better ones" hehe :P

....tune i must say. i wish i let myself practice enough to develop on guitar. the tune is simply stunning mate, just sat here after a joint nicely chilled out, suits the mood beatuifully.
It has a certain 'warmth' about it, like an old vinyl record, which if you was going for is very cool. i think the reverb is a bit 'washy' in places mind, most notably in the lower range. maybe use more of an ambience setting, i dunno.
it's a really good recording of guitar tho, and the track stands out so you be gettin top marks as per usual.
keep it up, and thanks for cheking me tune out.

Author's Response:
Thanks pitters, I think I'm going to switch to CoolEdit's Full Reverb for tracks like this, much more adequate.
I'm glad it could accompany you on one of your herbal journeys mate. Hehe.

well i get round to reviewing you finally. and i find a piece of sumptuious sound wizardry to feast upon.
this track oozes class from begining to end. from the opening 'bottle' sound it has an element of ingenuity, the synth guitar/sitar line is ace, tho resemblent of a track ive heard in the charts. cool none the less, plus the little bit of lead supplimenting the sound around the edges. The strings compliment the mix nicely.
the mid section is alomst KB instyle, not detracting from your own style, clearly it has mancuso written all over it, as it lulls the listener into thinking we're going into chill mode.
But no we hit reggea mode. Stunning choice of musical direction, the beat totally fits the atmosphere, only momentarily before we hit some breaks, the 'crystal' synth really stands out.
its a proper journey mate, faultless in production. again try gettin some airplay for this beauty. you've truly got it. i don't know whether vocals would add or detract from this, i woyuld love to hear a take with tho.
anyways it's full marks across the board.

No offence mate, Im; english. this track is very 'american' kinda grates me. the tunes all very nice, i like the tambourine. the drums themselves stand out as sampled from the rest of the track.
The vocal is well...acceptable. not good, not bad, it'll do. i think it's one of the main problems, it sounds like you aint letting go of the vocal, restraining it cos it's in a mic.
Its a generic track tbh, nice, ticks the right boxes, but doesn't really make any inroads. the productions is sound, nice touches with the double tracking and so on, it's missing that 'wow' factor though. its a 3/5 but cos im nice i give 4.

well i go away, i come bk and i find this lovely piece of ambient guitar from the 'tang innit. very relaxing, simple but soooo seductive. the quality of the guitar is awesome, extremely clean and crisp, seems you've been working on getting a good take, helps though with an acoustic don't it.
If anything i think you could really open this track out somewhere, the way i'll stretch the intros out, add a quiet string quartet, filling the surroundings of this mix, let it grow and mutate into an even more beautiful creation, like a caterpillar to a butterfly.
with regards to mogwai, i'd almost certainly say yes, sigur ros too. simply brilliant.
i can't give this anything less than a 5.
pitters
Author's Response:
Yeah I missed you, thanks for the kind words mate.
Glad you like the guitar sound, I'm slowly getting the hang of it. I dunno, I find electric easier to mix actually, I just went a bit overboard in the Narshe tune :)
Here, I had to do a lot of trial and error to get it to sound lo-fi and not just crappy.
As I told padman, an opus more magnum is in the making. I just don't have a lot of time to spend currently.
Hehe, our Mogwai and Sigur Ros thing :)
Hope to hear more stuff from you soon!

really is a great track mate. the beat is really sweet, the opening guitar and vocal really chill you out. i thought it would have carried on but it didnt, and the way it went is cool, with the added beats short jazz rhodes and bass with the xylophone style notes, really sweet. Back into the opening vocal part again, i really like that vocal just swooning with the tune, it reminds me of a band, but i can't remember who, quality track tho mate. the double tracking really emphasises the vocal lines too. the production is spot on too, clean, crisp and clear. nothing is too heavy or to quiet. u must have a really good mic and vocal plugins. cracking tune yet again mate, you should attempt to garner some air play for this little beauty. try god of the pod yet again. or send it in to zane lowe for the evening session. get it out there.
10/10
