oooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Dynamic range bro. Lacking therein. I can't listen to the track, it's all peak, there's no range, just volume. Go back, lower EVERYTHING, build it from the drum and the bass, pan a little, cuut the lows on your highs, the highs on the lows.

I never not 5.

LD-W responds:

Except it has a 6.5 average DR with certain parts having even greater dynamic range, large enough that it wouldn't negatively impact the track if I dumped it on any streaming service. I have very capable maximizers which can raise whatever I want (within reason) without negatively impacting the signal due to Transient Empasis and Curving.

Stop looking at the visualiser to make your judgement and actually listen to the piece lol.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, that hard cello! that is brave.

48, guitar, harmony, then the tenor. You make filthy music. As a piece of trap (that's what we call dubstep these days) it's manky, I feel dirtier for listening to it. On a technical level it's bang on, as normal. As a musical piece, doesn't really agitate my balls.

If i were you , which I ain't, i'd be working in that space where the sax is introduced and go breaks with some hooks.

5 all day.

oh those are brave 90's synths.

Into an interesting percussion. I nearly stopped at 1 minute, it just aint working on my level, the synth and break 130-150, yea, i like. I am liking the 45 second of groove, I think that is where a tune is. That vocoder type synth and it's backing really disagree with me. The track is well mixed, with stereo balance and eq. It's not my bag though mate.

always 5

Midnights-Ocean responds:

I had forgotten about this track. lol. I was heavily influenced by very crazy Jtek back in the 90s. this track needs work, hence the WIP. I think my biggest problem with it is it's alittle too melody sparse at first. Needs an element to glue all this crazy sections together more coherently. Otherwise, I dig this kinda crazy shit. I know it's not for every one. I'm kind a fan of 90s weirdness in some ways. thanks for the 5 as always! :D

Let's see what soundscape you set me up.

Nice foley, into your chakras, solid percussion, sounds 'live', the synth and string, very complimentary. You have an unhealthy amount of reverb on this but you balance it well. I no longer partake in the bud, but if i did, i'd be zen'd out to fuck.

As a piece of 'music' it's probably lacking in the traditional sense, audiences will struggle to extract value......me? I love it, i get it, I'm glad I have monitors and volume to envelope myself in the world you create.

Midnights-Ocean responds:

Oh you know me and my overuse of reverb : P lol.

This to me is more art sound, than a tune. That is the point though of the album this is from. Like a picture book and fuel for the imagination. Not so much stuff you'd hum along to.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm glad you think this is well balanced. It can be tricky with these kinds of pieces. Very happy with your comment on the percussion. Percussion, IMO is something that should always feel live. : )

I have the same external sound library hahaha, haven't used foley in years. The BBC have released their foley for free finally, 4tbs of everything you could think of.

I'll be honest your foley is like 75% of your mix, I can't hear shit below it, only tops are cutting. Roll the foley, 30db back, cut it's high and low.

i will 5 through principal, but bro get this remixed.

Midnights-Ocean responds:

lol he point of this was the instrument was supposed to be lost, just barely cutting in and out above the background ambiance. Was just something to relax to. Don't think I would be impressing anyone with my playing on this one. it's just noodling into the nightsky reverb heh. Thanks for the 5 all the same!

I promised a review so lets go.

That bass sine, yeaaaaaaaaa. The early sounds, i dig. This is very 80's new order, euryhtmics, gary numan. I think every sound choice, synth and sample is perfect. This really is a brilliant tune, i think vocals would push this to a genuine contender.

Now all of the great considered, your mix is 'pumpy' as fuck. i think you are side chaining your compressor to the bass, that is what it sounds like. Your panning for some reason is going mono.

Take all the plugins off the channels, reapply on the stereo out in this order, reverb, eq, dynamics, exciter, master. Then go to each channel and apply the required effects. Pin your bass and kick centre with your lead. Hats, toms about 45 l and r. Your main body, 20-50 l/r, addictives 75 l/r.

Bro, you have something here that is special, you just need to refine it. I bet you mixed this with just headphones didn't you? Correct me if I am wrong.

I never not 5, but seriously go and mix on some speakers.

love it

Englishman in new york.

The dynamic contrast from open to chord at 24 secs, that is a large gap in level, i had to quickly lower my monitors. Id be lowering your main. you have a lovely bass. the melody is great , i'd just relevel and run some room verb.

Well this is nice. iced piano. Love the groove, proper dub. the added reversed wub, yea. Mix is solid as expected. There's so much good going on here, a track that could be dark and drab is elegant and uplifting. it feels like a sunday afternoon.

yo bro, glad you enjoyed it. this was the direction i was headed before i ducked out. proper dub.
be good
px

i like.

Lots of quality sound choice. Very 80's. Very new order. The reverb is lush. I love sines. I'm all on this. your drum, as a personal preference is too thin, i'd be using bit rated snap snares with a deep kick, the hats are perfect.

This oozes menace, oldskool apathy. I would love a vocal on this.

absolute banger

5/5

LostChronology responds:

Thanks man, I'd love to see vocals over this as well (if anyone listening to this and reading this wants to add vocals, just contact me haha)

Yeah I wasn't sure about the drums either, was a struggle to get them right and less thin might work better.

Again thanks for the review :)

bit too industrial for me, it's absolutely not dnd, more acid house.

Yea, it works, nothing wrong with the mix, i hate it though. It absolutely has merit, the netherlands and germany would love this. It definitely ticks the e synaspe.

it's a 5 all day, it's not my jam though

Midnights-Ocean responds:

Thanks for the review brah. Yeah My old stuff was very heavy into the euro/japanese tech side of things. I can appreciate the stuff I did back then but I much prefer my new, more zen, direction. these old tunes gota get finished though. I didn't go from 360 unfinished tunes to 24 in a year and a half just to stop here.
