Beautiful

thats about as much as i can say. Wonderful voice, great diction and projection and an immaculate recording of that voice. I would be adding ambience to this track, really subtle sounds, or go for the epicness, but then that'd detract from the voice. anyways like i said. Beautiful.

Rig responds:

Yeah, I went for the soft reverb instead of the full orchestra. Hope you understand :)

howdy

oooooooooo opening is very Richard Ashcroft, can't remember the song right off me head. But yea the horns had me straight away. the really low bass kick hmmmmm not too sure as with the snare, maybe something more natural. Alot of the instruments sound 'midi-ish' dunno why. As an arrangement you have nailed epicness, some very grandiose sounds and wanton immediacy, gets the heart going. There are plenty of interesting layers which my ear keeps picking out. The only complaint as mentioned is it's midi-ish soundchoice. anyways 9-10. 5/5

SolusLunes responds:

Ja, not all of the instruments are of the highest quality.

I'll have to re-evaluate and re-make them.

oooooooooooo

Peaceful opening, building up, chilling, lovely, this is how my head works. Just thought i aint reviewed your stuff for ages. Is that a bitcrushed synthy bit that pops in and out as it sounds ace. Something i want to hear on this is voices, snippets of conversations just random bits. Haha that static, it now gives me the impression this track is leading on to something, i want to know what it is.

It's a very simple track which is what draws me in, production tho is spot on, maybe a tad quiet i aint sure. It's lovely tho mate. If you ever want monoloogues performed on your music you should give me a shout never mind a bit of acting. 10/10 and 5'd.

SineRider responds:

Thanks man. I was thinking of putting in some vocie clips here and there, but never got around to it, and couldn't find any decent clips. Maybe you could supply me.

Anyways, that little noise that pops up every once in awhile is a sampled piano stab, pitched down with reverb and delay. Sounds pretty cool eh?

Anyways, thanks for the review. I'll try and get you back sooner or later.

well lets see innit

Initial thoughts, those xylo/belly things are a tad bit loud, also notice someones been playing with chip vsts. as the kicks and the rest of the tune builds in increments it definately sounds sweet. The sax is just sex mate, I'm gonna need you to do a job on one of my tunes one day. I'm undecided as to whether some harmonies would benefit or detract from this tune.
It takes many listens to notice all the little things you add, i missed the laugh on the first run through, little tiny quiet licks, and there is a harmony afterall. It's cracking stuff mate as is always the case, you put me to shame.

9/10 5

snoballandthmonyshot responds:

yo pitters, yeh those mallets are a tad loud. lots of wierd filter boxes, samples and distortions for the strange noises.
that ain't no sax, is a clarinet, didn't have the lung power for the sax today, haven't picked up an instrument for weeks.
thanks for the listen brother

cool tune

very cool track, oozes with confidence and style. Listening on poor speakers atm but the mastering is spot on methinks. Love all the lil touches that add to this track, reminds me a bit of a band that i can't remember the name of right at this moment, damn my stupid brain. Drums are really good, i like the ring you've got on the snare.

The lyrics i feel could be sung a wee bit clearer, as it is a bit hard to decipher em even with the lyrics you've posted. The double tracking works well mind. The simple guitar line is nice, good sound, well recorded. Cool level of verb on the sax too, washes the mix nicely.

Overall, it's another stonker mate. 10/10 and a 5.

snoballandthmonyshot responds:

haha, cheers daz.
didn't do anything to the mix really, just recorded the 5 tracks in, drums are completely uncompressed or EQ'd, a little reverb here and there, job done but yeh, does sound pretty good mainly down to 1 point - my new mic is awesome, like i said, can finally get on the live drums... even tho my skills are lame here.
the vocals are that way partly coz i'm full of cold, prolly will work on a proper version at some point.
anyways, nice to hear from you

Stunning

You now have a certifiable genre of your own mate. Something that has been bandied around me for ages, but you genuinely do have your own intelligable style. A certain vibe, a feeling.

Wow, just wow. I'm struggling here to really give anything of constructive merit. It is THAT good a track. I love that falsetto by the way, thats crazy that be that.

A lot of your tracks generally have a 'latino' vibe to em, not saying that they sound like that, just they have a nice air of familiarity around all the modern soundscapes that you create. This track is no different but pushes it even further, it feels more rounded, more sure of itself, it now has a sense of purpose. A belief that maybe you were lacking say 12 months ago.

The vocals are ace, end of. I love the 'wha, eh, word up????' bit and the 'scat' section.

The musical elements of the track, tho not massively embelished are wondrous, surrounded by support and ambience, licks of guitar and sax. And the Bangra tabla's jeeeeeeeezzzzzzzz. I have no fault whatsoever with this track and i mean no fault. If this was a commercial record, i would buy it. end of.

Take this is me flattering you or take is as i genuinely mean it, i am in awe of this song and how you are coming on in mythical leaps.

10/10

snoballandthmonyshot responds:

greetings manchester,
i noes you mean it, you'd surely tell me if you didn't like it and besides, why would you flatter me?
...and that oppinion of yours is one that i value greatly.
the point of actually having lyrics (rather than random bollox or made up languages:/) for this, albeit hard to decifer, did give the track a little more direction, it didn't wholly dictate the track nor did the track dictate the lyrics. i think that ushered the 'sense of purpose'.
thanks for your words bro, we are our own worst critics so a bit of reasurrance is well needed, i wasn't sure of this tracks merit.
as i said in the review for one of your tracks, sorry to hear things aren't easy for you at the minute but am glad to see that you're getting a lot of music going on. keep em coming, i always look forward to em.
stay cool

hmmmm trancey

Just so you are aware, I am not a big trance fan. But here goes.

The tune itself ticks the right buttons, meaty kick, buzzy synths etc etc and the reverse cymbal. The Arp could be used more effectively playing a triplet rather than the same note.

Your drum samples are a little 'fruity' especially the snare/clap and hats. It's always hard to find good samples, reverb does help alot on snares tho.

Production wise it sounds extremely compact, overally compressed. It needs some space to breathe, the track. Volumes and panning. Tis one of my early mistakes in music, trying to get everything heard, it's the main synth in this, it's too much too near.

The breakdown is nice. leading back in. It's good don't get me wrong, it can be better tho, in it's current state it's about 7/10 and if they gave 3.5/5 it'd be that, cos i'm nice you get a four.

Good stuff though, it shows a lot of promise keep it up.

pitters

Yodamanjaro responds:

Yeah. thanks for the review. I don't personally think that becuase of some effects difficulties and some volume issues that I receive such a mediocre score. Eh. At least it wasn't any lower. At least you don't vote zeros. :)

blipitty bloppitty choppitty

Cool track mate, me likes very much.

Tis weird mind, nice underlying ambience synths, just enough to give it some chordal sounds. The 'beat' obviously is taking precedance in the track. Which works for this track, Though i probably would have liked to hear some more 'music' if you know what i mean.

Keep going through on repeat and i'm picking up more and more BG sounds every listen. The sum seems to be a whole of its parts in this track especially.

Production is faultless as usual, good stereo, etc etc.

9/10

and a five.

Pitters

(plenty of new crap up whenever you can be arsed innit)

LJCoffee responds:

DOH!!

Sorry about the really late response - only just noticed there were a few unanswered reviews on this one. Thanks for the listen! Always nice to hear from you.

hmmmmmmmmmmmm

opening bit is weird, plenty of off beats, once it kicks in though it definately finds it's legs. The delay on the first sax i think should be longer, the decay is fine but the time should be longer.

The movement into the 3rd phrase at 2mins is nice, that was the point i got into the tune. the 4th phrase with the spanish is cool. Very latino in execution. The close is good too, twinkling away.

Overall it's not one of my fav's but it's still exce[tionally good, far better than a lot of stuff we find on here.

One minor gripe, it's lacking some much needed bottom end, a meaty kick as the sqaure isn't doing enough for me.

Production is faultless as always. The guitars and sax are simply awesome. Can't pick up any hiss or hum whatsoever. vocals too, well polished and diction is great.

technically i give it 10/10

as a song of personal taste it would be about a 7.5. but as it's about style and so forth you get full marks kid.

just put up a little loop by all means check it out.

pitters

snoballandthmonyshot responds:

yo bro,
every1 apart from waga is pretty much saying the same, doesn't get going till a bit later on but i'm used to it now and ain't gonna change it:/
I'll def have another look at the bass tho, is quite often a problem, my system is really bassey so ends up lacking on other systems.
anyhoo, thanks, i do so love a bit of constructive critisism

nice mate

just spotted this is i entered the AP. Proper DNB the way i like my AP, some soft and dark, nice level of 'verb on the opening beat, soft. very good. Mixed extremely well. the second main section, with it's phatness sqeulchy bass and hard hitting, slightly driven drums. works a treat. Delayed support synths are effective, flitting around on the liminal of the track. If anything the kick is missing some 'thud', probably because of the drive.

very deceptive the opening, compared to the rest of the track, was gonna turn me speakers up haha. That synth is sooooo gritty tho really like, need to get meself a proper controller so i can modulate and bend my shit.

Sample choice is spot on, if it is samples or is it loops? i dunno but the sounds are pure and true.

Suits a saturday night very much. It is a welcome addition to your music stable,a dn it's nice to hear new stuff from you.

5/5 without a shadow of a doubt, which makes it a 10/10 too.

pitters

LJCoffee responds:

Hey thanks for the review

You're right, the kick could use a little more beef on it, I probably eq'd out too much of the low end on all of the kicks too make room for that sub.

As for samples or loops... it's a mix of a bunch of this and that. There are samples layered over loops - in fact there was a lot of layering in this one - more so than I usually use.

Next time around I'll pay more attention to my frequencies - fatten up that kick a little and actually monitor things a little more.

Thanks though - I really appreciate it seeing as how I usually don't dabble in DnB - maybe I'll do some more.
