hmmmmmmmmmm.

Love it. like yes. is this just you or a band? Its so stone roses, brilliant.

Ghecko responds:

It's just me goofing around with a friend who helped me come up with the song idea lol.

I played and recorded everything but the drums, which were taken from a sample of James Brown's funky drummer. But the first time I heard it was in Sublime's scarlet begonias cover, and I've loved the beat ever since.

I like. really really like.

You sound close to manchester, closer to merseyside. I am going to review your other stuff. You have a good mic, a great voice but you lack some production skill. I want to work with you live.

Ooooooo I like this. Kinda 92 trance house.

Your synth choices are fine, beat fine, structure fine.

You are let down by volume again. I promise you LOUD does not equate to good. Just rein your levels in apply high and low cuts relative to where you want your parts to be higher or lower. Utilize some panning and run some multi band compression. I'd say 10db lower before post production, aim for a non clipping mix at -2d on the master, make sure at each stage there are no clips.

always 5.

Not my bag really.

It is peaking to fuck though, rein your dynamics in mate, let the track breathe. Filter your parts, pan it. Roll that volume back and check your clipping. It sounds like you normalized the whole track to the highest peak. Where a dirty industrial house track should be is a kerfuffle of noise where there is no discernible difference in parts.

I strongly advise you to look back at this mix with an honest heart and reappraise it. There is a track in there, you gotta get working though.

I always 5 by.

pitbulljones

oh hell yes!

great playing. amplitude yea?

drums are a let down. they sound so like a different room. Play with the verb and match the rooms.

Your technique, better than me. You work in similar tone, i just can't riff.

yea this track just needs tlc, rebalance alll the levels. Eq, excite, verb, compression. I could brighten this in 5 minutes lol. Seperate the parts in panning its all central and roughly 25 left n right.

You have an immensely good track here, with some tlc it's money.

always a 5.

thanks for listening and especially thanks for the feedback. man, I wish I liked mixing as much as I liked recording.

You dirty, glitchy bastard. This is like a migraine that is mildly pleasant. I mean it's art. But art is entirely subjective. You have a mean sampler there. Your audio quality is fine.

Personally, I would not post this, it's you testing, it's not you playing, yea? Still a 5.

Fuck me! 10 minutes! That is a beautiful open, some moody harmonics. I can't recall the instrument but its like a japanese instrument. The pick up in pace....the ocean. Really subtle synth work. So good.

The thought is do I want more? I'm not entirely sure i do. There is so much chill, so many complimentary tones. It's an excellent binaural piece.

The mix is fine, if a tiny bit under compressed, leaving a few high peaks, but they are not a huge issue. I can appreciate your choice to leave as much dynamic range as possible.

I could sleep to this easily. I think this is exceptional work.

Midnights-Ocean responds:

wow wow dude! Thanks so much. Great review! I'm so glad you liked this. Yes the mix is still raw. I barely touched it yet lol. If the Japanese instrument you are referring to is the koto then *heart*. I think my favorite part of this YW pulsar is it's sound palette is a mix of some of my most loved instruments. It has a string quality like an acoustic bass, a pluck quality like the koto but it also has these long ringing harmonics like a pipe organ. It's like it hovers right in between wind, string and percussive instruments. I still have other little details to add and tweak but the main portion of this tune is done. I would hope 10 minutes was enough XD. It was hard to make it shorter, since I wanted proper breathing space for each melody to ring.

Thanks again ^_^

This is smart. Groovy as hell. For what is essentially glitch hop, it retains a very mainstream appeal. I think you should perhaps attempt a straight vocal over this, reverse reverbed. Well up to 2:30 anyway.

The 2nd phrase doesn't really get me. It doesn't sit too well for me in transition. I feel the 1st phrase is where the money is at and that should be your focus. But that is just me.

Your mix is perfect as usual. Well balanced, eq'd, dynamically sound. I like it. Just not all of it.

The Pit(bull) lol

I love this, i'm all over this retro vibe. Some beautiful sines and a chorded ice tri pad, which is epic. The bass could be a bit more natural and less acid like, though the squelchy notes do help drive your groove. I'd prefer a more natural tone.

That main synth man i love it.

Percussion nicely verb'd. Generally mix is fine, some nice pan and well eq'd.

This has huge potential. I may even borrow it to try a guitar part out.

I’d love to hear a guitar part on it.
