well done mate

a wonderful tune, and a well deserved winner of the MAC. The choice of synths, the glitching everything oozes class, which to be honest is what you are. all your music is phenomenol and i am really impressed with the consistant level of your output.

Dude, you made my day. I'm off to your audio page.

wellllllll

i can actually talk now about thinsg i know. both the game and the guitar. right well, it's final fantasy 6 this is from, though in europe and america it's 3. it's a grat interpretation and you've captured the feel of the piece perfectly. nothings out fo place and it's a nice homage to the track.

but.....

your guitar production isn't upto scratch, the chorus'd lead muddles the mix far too much, theres some great sounds on here, but if im right theres two chorus'd guitars playing and when they both play they really collide, you may want to apply a small flange on one of em with a really slow attack. a couple of notes are too quiet and thres a few that are too loud, which may be just a playing fault rather than an intentional decision. the actual technics of yout playing are spot on, nice hammer ons and picking with some nice subtle delays, roll off some of the reverv though and use the delay to add the space that you're after along with an early reflections programme. I've had loads of problesm when i first started recording guitars via a pc over 6 years ago, what will really help is a DI box or a usb fx pedal, something that can get you as clear a signal before further processing.

it's great stuff though and is a very accurate interpretation of the tune.

Awesome man, this is just the kind of review I was hoping for. If you've been recording guitar into PC for 6 years, you're the most directly accurate help I can wish for :)
I'll experiment along with all you just said man, keep checking me out once in a while!!

i can't really comment on this

as i don't know the theory of music to talk about the techniques you are applyong here. But what i can tell you is there is a great balance between light and shade, just enough to keep me engaged. the phrasin to is good. though the second phrase sounded a bit off kilter before leading into the fast part (i can't remember the name for the life of me) anyways grat stuff yet again.

btw when are you going to submit summat to my podcast eh? you should definately put something in.

WinTang responds:

Sure you can comment on it... I didn't make it solely for the musical experts :)
The funny thing is that the part you considered out of kilter (another word I had to look up btw... you're good for my English too!) is the real mazurka part hehe - which totally corresponds with what others have said.
Know that I appreciate your input just as much as Simon_F's, although he has a better look into the actual composition - the result matters and should be pleasing to anyone who gives a fuck about classical music.
So thanks a damn lot again!

I have to say

I am simply awestruck with how far you've come on musicially, and thats not to say you were bad before as you were awesome, but you have developed into a truly great musician. im amazed i really am, you're understanding of music, your choice of instrumentation and the abilty to cross genres and belnd them together is astounding. I love this track, with the acid bass, and old school drums and horn section it's a throwback to early 90's late night dance. top stuff, i can hear some jaz elements on the rhodes too, which compliments the horns. the drums and the bass do feel a little light in the mix, a bit pushed back maybe you jst need to put a heavy limiter on the whole track and bring it's level up.

great stuff yet again.

WinTang responds:

Wow! Thanks a lot! It's so funny how differently people listen - you really focus on song structure and composition, and production in the second place, right? Same as me :)
I'm really happy with all the reviews you gave me, it really motivates and gives me new ideas. Thanks!

brilliant

after reading a few of the other reviews and understanding how this piece should be played, i understand what they are saying. the piece is too expressive, but i'm loving it regardless. i don't know a lot aboyut theory so i'll leave this short and sweet. top stuff, a great talent and another 5/5

pitbulljones

WinTang responds:

Thanks! Note that it's not my composition though (just to be sure). It's more of a piano exercise than anything but I'm glad I got the beauty of the piece across :)

WOW

Plain and simply fucking grad A shit. Can you remember the old technicolour films from hollywood during the 50's and 60's. this is like a track from one of them films. the instrumentation is simply awesome. and when that crystal bell and string section comes in it's really magical. I love your music man. so diverse and creative. u just seem to be on a constant curve of developin into a great musician. damn man fricking A.

oh btw the 2/2 as a degree is the equivalent to a C grade

WinTang responds:

"oh btw the 2/2 as a degree is the equivalent to a C grade"

I did not get that, lol.

Thanks a lot for your kind words, they really touched me - this time in not such a gay way!

awwwww...

how cute and quaint this is. you say you wrote this for a play? send me the script man, what with e acting and stuff id rather read a script tahn a book anyday. anyway you have a lovely style of piano playing, applying fragmented chords and juxtaposing 7ths and minors, i mean it's very esy to do but it just sounds great. i'd love to hear you on a proper piano in a reverb chamber. this would suit an rpg or summat this. or a short scen on loop.

great stuff again

WinTang responds:

Thanks!
The script is in Dutch though, I don't think you're going to get a lot of it...
This is a proper grand piano, btw, even in a sorta reverb chamber. I recorded it in the studio at my school. I could've added some more reverb, probably, though I like it to be a little shrill.
Lemme look up what quaint means...
1. Charmingly odd
2. Unfamiliar or unusual in character
3. Cleverly made, artful
Woohoo!! :D

Thanks man.

"Jazz....Niiiiiice" Fast show...

I just realised i havent reviewed you in aggggggeeeesssss, so im goin on a reviewing spree for you. Well, this tune is quality, very 'jazzy' which you know being jazz is kinda the aim. some of the instruments sound a bit synthesised tho, i don't know what programme you're using or vst's but it does affect the authenticity of the track. that bass is the main one, the rhodes organ is sound tho as are the drums.

i don't actually know alot about jazz, its form and structure or it's lack of, but it does feel it has a bit too much structure to it, i think thats cos you're playing all the parts and jazz comes from a group of musicians who have different interpretations of music. anyways i really liked the track, theres a jazz club in manchester which im gonna have to go to, as its very cool music, its a jolly good effort. an for this effort you recieve a 4/5.

pitbulljones

WinTang responds:

Hehe... this is definitely a great surprise man, 7 new reviews by you!! Thanks a lot!!

The funny thing is that there is nothing else than drums and Rhodes to this... what you interpreted as the bass is just the left hand. One drum track, one Rhodes track, is all it is. I haven't fiddled too much with the VST options, so I can understand that it does seem synthesized at points. Furthermore, it needs some upright bass.

You make a very interesting point about the structure, if I ever expand this I'll try to "transform" into other musicians to try the difference in interpretations. I would have never thought of that, so thanks a lot for mentioning that.

Great comments man! You rock! It will be returned soon.

too generic

your use of instrumentation ruins whatever chance this song had of bein a success, all the parts are from a gm bank of midi sounds, you need more authenticty to your sounds. gm just doesnt cut it, go to www.kvraudio.com get sum free synths and revamp your track. the bass is poor, the piano is poor, the drusm are poor, the arrangement it self isnt that bad it's just let down by bad instrruments.

what can i say, i use cakewalk pro audio 9

blissful

really like this track mate, so chilled out. the chord progression is very unnerving, ive used a similar type for oneof mine, it gives it that eerie feel. it does seem to be only an intro though, you should develop this into a longer piece. add sum percussion and bass, some more supportin instrumentation. very nice tho. it'll feature in podcast 4.

SineRider responds:

I was thinking of adding a drum beat of some sort to the song, but it sounded out of place. I may make a longer version of the song in the future. Thanks for the review and putting me on the podcast.
