oh hell yes! take me to zen town. love that bass, what is it? it drives all the low range, need good speakers to appreciate that. which i am on lol.

A bit sparse, and there's some high end hiss off the kalimba, notch filter will sort that.

lovely, melodic and tranquil. That bass is epic. I'm always intrigued about how one can develop this into a trip hop/breaks verb'd track.

5

(new tune for you too bro)

Midnights-Ocean responds:

Hey thanks man! This is literally a single instrument track. Only added thing is a little airy hissy sounding pad that comes in just every once in a while to add atmosphere.

Unfortunately, it was raining out when I recorded the kalimba, so the noise floor was not great but after you pointed it out, I hunted down a good plugin. The bertom denoiser. Seemed to fix it. Which is nice, since I really don't want to do a retake. You know how that is, that first take always has something magic that you miss with a retake. At least that's how it usually is with me. When I do another one like this though, next time I will try harder to get the noise floor down. It is nice though to know I have a tool to fix such things now. The denoiser I had before I found bertom was crap. The bertom is actually pretty good. It's basically a mulitband gait with spectrum and sensitivity controls.

The mid bass is directly from the kalimba. The low bass sounds that you likely wont hear unless you are on good big speakers (or phones) is actually what happened when I automated the audio thing reels tape delay plugin to stop and start the reel every so often. Very cool effect and I'm glad someone noticed it.

Yes this is sparse. Plenty of room for additions. Not sure if I will add much though, since the point of this was simplicity and I love how well the kalimba did on it's own with the thick tape delay. If you wanted to add beats though (or whatever), go ahead and download it and post what you come up with. I'd be happy to listen. Thanks again for the review. Glad you liked.

Bit thin. your arps hitting peaks....hear the pops? clean them up. I would try using a rhodes piano change the whole tone. it's nice and has potential.

InteniumSlapTime responds:

Ok Thanks for The Your Opinion

nice. but eq is an issue. width.

it's by no means terrible, but there's a disconnection in your verb'd backing compared to a dry front. Those strings need more prominence. Same with the synths. Inverse the track, softer beats bigger music. I hear a great tune with work. I like the dissonant chord, maybe add a few 7ths and 9ths in to.

Just need to put time in and rebalance the mix.

KB bro!

I like, dark. kinetic with lots of varied instruments. I feel, with consideration of it being you, that this is a bit by the numbers. Harsh i know. I love the samples. I'm just not grabbed by it. The mix is obviously flawless. Well eq'd. Balanced and crisp. I just kinda went 'meh'. Still a 5. But not for me.

Kingbastard responds:

Thanks for the reviews. I appreciate them even if you don’t like the tunes. This was made in a few hours of mental “clarity” in a week of considerable pain from an impacted wisdom tooth abscess. So yeah, it’s nothing too complex or elaborate. More an expression of what I was dealing with, a kinda glitched-up spoken word piece, with all instruments made, in one form or another, from glass-sounds based synthesis to represent the state of my stupidly sensitive and fragile teeth. Making this was a welcome distraction. As always, thanks for listening.

just needs some eq cut.

love that open, dramatic, nice pans and filters.

sounds a bit sigur ros.

i am on this like a tramp on chips. love it. Just tighten up the range on parts. The low is swamping the levels of your mid and treble. but boy do i get it.

etK responds:

Thanks for the advice! I will work on the EQ

clipping bass hits detract from a sterling piece of ambient work.

I'd maybe even remove them.

I can add some nice guitar drones and licks, just give me the chords.

everything except the bass hits is balanced, incredibly indie. i love it. it's roughly 140 based on arp. decent progression.

i could do great work on this

I am editing this review now i am on monitors.

There's literally no issue at all. So I apologise, my standard speakers have an issue with them, likely blown the bass.

listening now on monitors it's brilliant, maybe those bass pipes are still too forward but that is preference. Send me a mix without them.

Midnights-Ocean responds:

Inigo Montoya voice: This clipping, I do not think this word means what you think it means.

Was wondering if you'd notice this post. The bass wasn't clipping, just mixed high, so I tamed it a bit and updated the file on this post. If you want to do something with this, by all means, go for it. Post what you end up doing so I can listen. : )

yes mate!

i did one like this years ago.

Midnights-Ocean responds:

Hey cool beans. I'll take a listen.

ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

that drone

jesus.

Midnights-Ocean responds:

That's the Grendel for ya. X3 it growls, it hums, it purrs.

nice.

sample too on the bass end. like that it's pitch shifted.

some proper vangelis jupiters here.

i love when the beats in. yeaaaaaaaaaaa. i accept the 808's and linn drum, fits brilliantly. There is some minor phasing caused by the arp against the pad, that is an eq issue regarding range. Doesn't seem very panned but that may just be me.

great work

nice ambiance.

Kicks good. envelopes are nice.

This has a nice groove to it, bang a vox on this and make it a little less busy, make money.
